A Throwback Party & a Killer LED Wall: Pluralsight’s RKO in San Diego

Bringing an event to life isn’t just about schedules and sessions—it’s about creating an experience attendees will actually remember. For Pluralsight’s Revenue Kickoff (RKO) in San Diego, we pulled out all the stops to make sure this was more than just another corporate event.

Welcome to the Throwback Party

What better way to kick things off than with a nostalgia-fueled welcome reception?

We took attendees back in time with an event celebrating the best of the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s.

🕺 Guests dressed the part, rocking bell bottoms, neon windbreakers, and grunge flannel
🎮 We brought in classic games and piles of nostalgic candy
💿 Vinyl records, disco balls, and retro décor set the scene
🎧 Our DJ kept the vibes alive, spinning everything from ‘70s funk to ‘90s hip-hop

This wasn’t just a reception—it was a party that transported attendees straight back to their favorite decades. And yes, it was every bit as fun as it sounds.

A General Session with a View & A Massive LED Wall

For the main event, we set up in an expansive tent overlooking San Diego Bay—a backdrop that made every session feel larger than life. But the real showstopper? An 80-foot-wide LED wall.

This massive visual centerpiece created a high-energy, dynamic stage that kept attendees engaged through three days of keynotes, panels, and presentations.

But producing a general session in a tent? That’s where things got tricky.

Challenges & Behind-the-Scenes Solutions

Rigging & Safety: Because we were in a tent, standard rigging wasn’t an option. Our engineer spent hours designing a rigging plan that was both safe and structurally sound, ensuring the weight distribution worked with the tent’s capabilities.

The Sloped Floor: The tent was built on a surface with a 20-inch slope over 80 feet—which meant our video engineer and technical director had to get creative to ensure the LED wall and stage were perfectly level. No one wants a keynote speaker looking like they’re standing on a hill!

Noise Considerations: With the tent positioned near an airport, a Coast Guard base, and a Navy base, sound interference was a major factor. Our A1 and A2 audio engineers worked meticulously to adjust levels, manage interference, and ensure crystal-clear audio throughout every session.

Lighting & Changing Daylight: The tent’s windows created constantly shifting light levels throughout the day. Our lighting designer carefully balanced artificial lighting to maintain consistent visibility and ambiance—whether it was morning, midday, or sunset.

At the end of the day, these challenges weren’t just obstacles—they were opportunities to show off our problem-solving skills and deliver a flawless production.

Ending on a High Note: Awards & Live Band Karaoke

After three days of learning, networking, and serious inspiration, there was only one way to close it out:

 An epic awards party!

🏆 The ballroom was transformed to celebrate the top performers of the year
🎶 A live band took over—but not just any live band…
🎤 Attendees got their rockstar moment with the live-band as they sang karaoke!

That’s right—this wasn’t your standard karaoke machine. A full band backed up brave singers, turning Pluralsight’s final night into a concert-worthy experience.

The Takeaway: When Work Feels Like an Experience

At Epic Productions, we don’t just plan events—we craft experiences that inspire, connect, and energize teams.

With a killer theme, stunning visuals, and interactive moments, Pluralsight’s RKO wasn’t just a meeting. It was a moment.

We loved every part of it.  (photo credit, temple city studios)
